Neurofeedback is a relatively new technique that has become possible due to the advances in computer technology. It is a non-drug, non-invasive, painless intervention that records brainwaves through the use of sensors on the scalp. The sensors are also connected to a computer where you can see your brainwaves and use feedback from the computer to learn to control the brainwaves, which in turn helps to regulate the brain. Research has shown that children with ADD/ADHD, for example, have slower brainwaves in certain areas as compared to non-ADD/ADHD children. Through watching the computer and listening to various sounds the child learns to change the brainwaves to a more desired state.
Neurofeedback has been effective in treating not only ADD/ADHD, but also many other problems of both children and adults such as depression, autism, anxiety and migraines.
